Carlos was born on Nov 20, 1981 in Aschaffenburg, West Germany and grew up in Juneau, Alaska.Carlos is the son of Charles and Renee Boozer. He has an older sister Natasha, and three younger siblings, Charles, Nakeisha and Natenya. He is father to three sons: Carmani, and twins Cayden and Cameron.

He was recruited by many top-tier collegiate basketball programs, including St. John's and UCLA, but Boozer elected to play for coach Mike Krzyzewski at Duke University, helping the team win the 2001 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship.
